Role Overview
The Technical Assistance Engineer independently resolves technical queries and RFIs from site and client teams during the construction phase of data centre and mission-critical projects, coordinating across mechanical, electrical, ELV, structural, and BIM disciplines.
The role owns the design-change and variation process for assigned scope, leads constructability and design quality reviews, and supports commissioning and handover, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams across CTS's EMEA project portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently resolve technical queries and RFIs across one or more disciplines, coordinating with the relevant design leads.
- Own the design-change and variation process for assigned scope, maintaining logs and assessing programme and cost impact.
- Review and approve or release design clarifications, shop drawings, and submittals within the assigned scope.
- Lead constructability and design quality assurance reviews, identifying and resolving design or interface issues before issue.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces across mechanical, electrical, ELV, structural, and BIM teams to close out technical queries.
- Liaise with vendors and OEMs on technical clarifications, equipment substitutions, and submittal queries.
- Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and Integrated Systems Testing, working with design and site teams to resolve technical issues.
- Support commissioning and handover, ensuring as-built documentation reflects agreed design changes.
- Review the work of junior engineers within the technical assistance function and provide day-to-day guidance.
- Ensure all design clarifications and changes comply with applicable codes, standards, and CTS/client requirements.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline; Master's an advantage.
- 5–10 years of experience in engineering design or construction-phase technical support, including exposure to mission-critical or data centre projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit MEP; working knowledge of Navisworks for clash detection and coordination.
- Working knowledge of relevant standards and regulatory frameworks applicable to Portugal (e.g., RTIEBT, SCIE, Eurocodes) and EN/IEC standards as applicable to the discipline scope.
- Ordem dos Engenheiros Membro Efetivo (or in progress).
- Experience managing RFI registers, design-change logs, and submittal review processes on multidisciplinary projects.
- Strong coordination and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work across design, site, and client teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently under fast-track project timelines.
