Role Overview

The Senior Hydraulic Engineer leads the design, calculation, and deployment of comprehensive water distribution and fire-extinguishing systems for major data center and industrial campus projects, holding technical sign-off authority and mentoring junior and intermediate engineers. The role owns compliance with local regulations, industry standards, and environmental benchmarks from initial concept through to final construction, across CTS's project portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and analysis of hydraulic systems for infrastructure, industrial, and water-related projects, and provide technical sign-off.

  • Oversee hydraulic calculations, flow analysis, and system sizing prepared by the team.

  • Own technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation for assigned projects.

  • Lead hydraulic modeling and simulation work to optimize system performance.

  • Lead coordination with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless project execution.

  • Lead design reviews for compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements.

  • Oversee installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of hydraulic systems.

  • Monitor project progress and provide technical solutions to complex engineering challenges.

  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations for clients and stakeholders.

  • Apply and enforce EN 12845 and NFPA 13 standards, and LEED/BREEAM program requirements, across projects.

  • Lead fire suppression design, including automated fire sprinkler systems, water curtains, and high-risk specialized suppression piping networks.

  • Own hydraulic calculations for flow, pressure drop, and pipe sizing to comply with international life safety standards (such as NFPA or VdS).

  • Lead multidisciplinary BIM coordination alongside structural, HVAC, and electrical engineering teams out of regional hubs like Porto.

  • Mentor junior and intermediate engineers and review their design deliverables.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Water Resources, or related Engineering discipline; Master's an advantage.

  • 10+ years of experience in hydraulic engineering, water systems, or related projects.

  • Expert understanding of fluid mechanics, hydraulic design principles, and system analysis.

  • Advanced proficiency in hydraulic modeling and engineering software such as EPANET, HEC-RAS, or similar tools.

  • Extensive experience preparing technical calculations, drawings, and engineering reports.

  • Deep knowledge of relevant industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project coordination skills.

  • Effective, client-facing communication and stakeholder management abilities.

  • Proven leadership and mentoring skills; ability to work independently and lead within a multidisciplinary environment.
