Role Overview

The Senior Architect defines the architectural design strategy for data centre and mission-critical campuses, holds design sign-off authority, and mentors junior and intermediate team members. The role leads facility-layout and envelope strategy, standards compliance (Uptime/TIA-942/EN 50600), and client and authority liaison from concept through commissioning, across CTS's EMEA project portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Define the architectural design strategy across master planning, white/grey-space arrangement, modularity, envelope, and security zoning for campus-scale sites.

• Provide technical authority and design sign-off for architectural packages; author and sign the projeto de arquitetura and termo de responsabilidade where required under Portuguese law.

• Set and enforce compliance with data-centre standards (Uptime Tier, ANSI/TIA-942, EN 50600/ISO/IEC 22237, ASHRAE TC 9.9) and resilience targets (N+1, 2N, concurrent maintainability).

• Own client relationships and lead liaison with planning and fire-safety authorities (Câmara Municipal do Porto/PDM, RJUE, ANEPC/SCIE).

• Lead design reviews, value-engineering, and optimisation studies for architectural scope across one or more projects.

• Lead multidisciplinary BIM/Navisworks coordination and enforce modelling standards and BIM execution plans.

• Oversee design and installation quality; lead commissioning-stage reviews and snagging of architectural works.

• Mentor junior and intermediate architects and review their design deliverables.

• Manage relationships with external consultants and specialist contractors.

• Support resourcing and programme planning for the architecture discipline across multiple concurrent projects.

Required Skills and Experience

• Master's degree (Mestrado) in Architecture or equivalent EU qualification.

• 10+ years of experience in architecture, including leading design on industrial, infrastructure, or mission-critical/data centre projects.

• Advanced proficiency across AutoCAD, Revit/BIM workflows, and Navisworks; working knowledge of 3D visualisation software.

• Deep knowledge of data-centre design standards (Uptime Tier, ANSI/TIA-942, EN 50600/ISO/IEC 22237, ASHRAE TC 9.9) and resilience concepts.

• Strong command of Portuguese building and planning frameworks (RGEU, RJUE incl. Simplex/DL 10/2024, SCIE/DL 220/2008, SCE/DL 101-D/2020, PDM do Porto).

• Sustainability certification (LEED AP, BREEAM) and data-centre certifications (Uptime) desirable.

• Proven experience negotiating with planning and fire authorities, clients, and specialist consultants.

• Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and multi-project coordination skills.
