Software Developer

Job ID JOB-005-0000263

We are looking for a Software Developer to design, develop, test, and maintain software across Gapit's products and platform. The role spans new feature development in Gapit's libraries and products (both open-source and closed-source systems), web interfaces, and integrations that bring operational technology (OT) and IT data together for on-premises data center operations, using InfluxDB as the time-series database and Kafka as part of the data pipeline. It requires practical experience with backend, web, and integration development, automated testing, security, and production deployment in industrial or infrastructure environments.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop new features and resolve issues across Gapit's libraries and products, both open-source and closed-source systems.
  • Analyze complex problems and develop effective, high-quality solutions.
  • Develop automated tests and validation methods to ensure products are of the highest possible quality.
  • Contribute to the development of Gapit's in-house automated tooling.
  • Test and evaluate new systems and solutions.
  • Implement best-practice security measures across Gapit's products and services.
  • Maintain version control using Git for all software and scripts developed.
  • Log issues with, and contribute to, open-source libraries; implement new features where needed.
  • Develop adequate end-user documentation, and deliver internal and external training when required.
  • Work with system experts and customers during troubleshooting.
  • Support the sales and project organization during the estimation and tender process.
  • Maintain Gapit's website, and keep abreast of the latest development trends and technologies.
  • Act as an advocate for Gapit in software communities, and work proactively to improve the company's management system.

Required Competence

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field — or equivalent technical education and relevant work experience.
  • Experience developing backend and integration software for infrastructure or industrial systems such as cooling, power, UPS, environmental sensors, network equipment, and IT load.
  • Ability to design and build vendor-agnostic integrations and connectors across heterogeneous OT and IT systems, protocols, and data formats.
  • Understanding of API design and integration of third-party services.
  • Understanding of security principles and the ability to build secure applications.
  • Ability to explain trade-offs related to performance, scalability, maintainability, security, and operational complexity.

Programming and Development Competence

  • Programming languages such as Python and JavaScript, and others used for backend and data engineering (e.g. Go, Java, Scala, Rust, or C++).
  • Web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
  • Docker container technology, and the ability to work with containerized, distributed, and event-driven systems.
  • Frameworks and tooling for service development, data processing, and integration pipelines.
  • Experience building APIs and backend services for operational environments.
  • Version control and collaboration with Git; a genuine interest in software and participation in open-source projects (e.g. on GitHub).

Technical Environment

  • Ubuntu Linux configuration, hardening, and operations.
  • InfluxDB integration for time-series storage and retrieval.
  • Kafka integration for streaming pipelines and event-driven architectures.
  • Docker or Kubernetes-based deployment.
  • REST API development using frameworks such as FastAPI, Spring Boot, Go services, or similar technologies.
  • Logging, monitoring, alerting, and production operations.

Data Pipeline and Integration

  • Ingesting real-time and near-real-time data from OT and IT sources into Kafka.
  • Normalizing and storing operational data in InfluxDB.
  • Building services that expose data and platform functions through APIs.
  • Integration with dashboards, Grafana, and multi-site estate views.
  • Supporting integration with ITSM or operational monitoring systems.

Quality, Security, and Operational Requirements

  • Building robust, secure, and maintainable software for continuous (24/7) operation.
  • Ensuring product quality through automated testing and validation.
  • Upholding security and hardening standards appropriate to critical infrastructure.
  • Ensuring reliability and performance across single-site and multi-site deployments.

Desired Deliverables

  • Backend, web, and integration software implementation.
  • Integration connectors and data pipeline components.
  • API definitions and service interfaces.
  • Automated tests and validation methods.
  • Configuration files and service definitions.
  • End-user and operational documentation.
