Role Overview The Team Leader – Electrical spearheads the electrical design function for hyperscale, enterprise, and AI/ML data centre projects, combining deep technical expertise with day-to-day team leadership. The role owns the technical quality of electrical design deliverables across HV/LV distribution, UPS systems, switchgear, and protection coordination, while acting as the primary point of technical escalation for the electrical team.
Working closely with mechanical, ELV, IT, and architectural disciplines, the Team Leader ensures electrical designs are robust, efficient, and code-compliant across all project phases, from concept through commissioning. The role also carries direct responsibility for developing the technical capability of the electrical design team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design activities including HV/LV distribution, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, and fault current coordination.
- Act as subject matter expert for electrical systems, ensuring designs meet performance, reliability, and compliance standards.
- Coordinate electrical systems with mechanical, ELV, IT, and architectural disciplines throughout the design lifecycle.
- Ensure adherence to IEC, IEEE, NFPA, and applicable Indian electrical codes and regulations.
- Review drawings, specifications, and vendor submittals for technical accuracy and completeness.
- Drive adoption of energy-efficient solutions, renewable integration, and advanced monitoring systems.
- Present technical solutions, support design workshops, and address client and stakeholder queries.
- Support project scheduling and resourcing for the electrical design team in coordination with project management.
- Mentor engineers, foster knowledge sharing, and build technical capability within the electrical design team.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree an advantage.
- 10–15 years of experience in electrical design, including exposure to data centre, hyperscale, or other mission-critical facilities.
- Prior experience leading or mentoring a team of engineers is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HV/LV power distribution, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, generators, and protection/fault current coordination studies.
- Proficiency in ETAP or SKM PowerTools for load-flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination studies.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical and Revit MEP; exposure to Navisworks for multidisciplinary coordination.
- Sound understanding of IEC, IEEE, NFPA standards and applicable Indian electrical codes and regulations (CEA regulations, relevant IS standards).
- Strong stakeholder management, technical presentation, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to mentor engineers and build capability within a design team.
