Role Overview The Team Leader – Mechanical leads all mechanical engineering functions for hyperscale and AI/ML data centre projects, covering HVAC, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Fire Fighting (FF), fuel systems, and piping. The role owns the technical direction of mechanical design across projects, ensuring systems are resilient, efficient, and fully compliant with applicable codes and standards.
Acting as the mechanical subject matter expert, the role holder coordinates closely with electrical, ELV, IT, and architectural disciplines to deliver integrated, buildable designs, while mentoring engineers and driving continuous improvement in design quality and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee mechanical design activities across HVAC, chilled water systems, cooling towers, pumps, piping, PHE, FF, and fuel systems.
- Act as SME for mechanical systems, ensuring designs meet performance, reliability, and compliance standards.
- Coordinate mechanical systems with electrical, ELV, IT, and architectural disciplines to resolve interface and clash issues.
- Ensure adherence to ASHRAE, NFPA, ISO, and other applicable international and local building codes.
- Review drawings, specifications, and vendor submittals for technical accuracy and completeness.
- Drive adoption of energy-efficient cooling, free cooling, advanced fire suppression, and sustainable fuel solutions.
- Present technical solutions, support design workshops, and address stakeholder queries.
- Review and approve mechanical BOQs, technical submissions, and engineering deliverables.
- Mentor engineers, foster knowledge sharing, and build capability within the mechanical design team.
- Support project teams through design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree an advantage.
- 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including exposure to data centre, mission-critical, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, chilled water systems, cooling towers, pumps, piping, PHE, FF, and fuel systems.
- Sound working knowledge of ASHRAE, NFPA, ISO, and relevant local building codes and standards.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit MEP; familiarity with BIM coordination workflows.
- Experience reviewing vendor submittals, technical specifications, and design drawings.
- Proven track record of leading and mentoring mechanical engineering teams.
- Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Good communication and presentation skills, with the ability to support client and design workshops.
