About the role 

The Senior AutoCAD Engineer is responsible for creating, developing, and reviewing detailed technical drawings and models for complex, large-scale engineering projects. This role requires mastery of AutoCAD and related design tools, close collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams, and strict adherence to quality and safety standards. You will support project execution by producing accurate drafts, coordinating with engineers, and ensuring full compliance with design specifications. You will also provide guidance to junior drafters and act as a key technical reference for CAD-related processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Drafting & Design: Produce and review detailed 2D and 3D AutoCAD drawings including layouts, sections, schematics, and construction details.
• Project Documentation: Prepare and maintain precise and well-organized design documentation throughout all project stages.
• Model Coordination: Collaborate with engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, civil,architectural) to integrate drawings into multidisciplinary models.
• BIM & Preferred Tools: Utilize Revit, Navisworks, or other BIM tools when required; provide support for design coordination.
• Quality Verification: Ensure all drawings meet project requirements, industry standards, and internal quality procedures.
• Design Updates: Incorporate mark-ups, feedback, and design changes efficiently, ensuring updated documentation is issued on time.
• Technical Support & Mentorship: Assist junior AutoCAD engineers and drafters by providing training on software tools, drafting standards, and internal workflows.
• Client Interaction: Support discussions with clients and consultants to clarify design details and ensure alignment with expectations.
• Compliance: Adhere to international and local drafting standards, safety codes, and project-specific design guidelines.
• Approve and release AutoCAD drawings under supervision of the Lead Design Engineer.
• Validate drawing accuracy and alignment with engineering specifications.
• Lead internal CAD audits and drawing quality reviews when required.
• Make design and drafting decisions within the scope of project guidelines.
• Escalate technical discrepancies, potential delays, or design conflicts to the Lead Design Engineer.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Drafting, Architecture, or related technical field (required).
• Advanced CAD certifications or training (AutoCAD Professional, Revit Certification, etc.) strongly preferred.
• Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD (2D & 3D).
• Working knowledge of BIM tools such as Revit, Navisworks, or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, engineering plans, and multidisciplinary design workflows.
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering specifications and technical documents.
• Strong command of documentation control and drawing management processes.
• Ability to manage multiple drawing packages simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in AutoCAD drafting for engineering or construction projects.
• Proven experience working on industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects involving large-scale drawings.
• Strong background in coordinating with mechanical, electrical, civil, or architectural engineering teams.
• Experience preparing IFC drawings, shop drawings, as-built documentation, and detailed drafting packages.
• Participation in design review meetings and technical workshops.
• Temporary leadership of drafting teams when designated by the Lead Design Engineer.
