Role Overview

The Junior Mechanical Engineer – Prefabrication supports the design and coordination of mechanical piping and cooling systems that are partially assembled and tested in a factory before installation in data centre projects. Working under supervision, the role helps ensure mechanical solutions are technically coordinated and suitable for modularisation, fabrication, testing, transport, and installation.

This is an opportunity to build specialist expertise in mechanical prefabrication and BIM-based coordination, using Revit, within a fast-track project environment alongside experienced engineers across CTS's EMEA project portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design, development, and coordination of mechanical piping and cooling systems for prefabricated and modular data centre solutions, under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist with the technical analysis and detailing of mechanical designs, drawings, specifications, and project documentation for fabrication and construction.
  • Support coordination of mechanical systems that are partially assembled and tested in the factory prior to site installation, helping maintain continuity between engineering, manufacturing, and site execution.
  • Assist with multidisciplinary coordination, helping identify interfaces, clashes, and technical inconsistencies with civil, structural, architectural, and electrical disciplines.
  • Use Revit/BIM authoring software to support the development, update, and coordination of mechanical models and project documentation, under supervision.
  • Support the application of modularisation principles (piping, supports, connections, routing, accessibility, installation requirements) to help develop buildable prefabricated solutions.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of mechanical drawings, details, specifications, calculations, and schedules.
  • Support quality reviews of mechanical engineering outputs for technical accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, factory/production teams, suppliers, and construction teams to help resolve technical issues.
  • Provide engineering support across project stages and travel to project locations as required.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in mechanical engineering design or multidisciplinary construction projects; exposure to data centres, modular, or prefabrication construction is valued.
  • Working knowledge of piping and cooling systems and their coordination requirements.
  • Basic proficiency with Revit/BIM authoring software.
  • Growing interest in digitalization and the application of BIM methodologies to engineering and construction processes.
  • Intermediate proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Responsible, proactive, and team-oriented, with strong motivation for continuous improvement.
  • Availability to travel according to project and business requirements.
