Role Overview
The Senior Mechanical Engineer – Prefabrication defines the design and coordination strategy for mechanical piping and cooling systems that are partially assembled and tested in a factory before installation in data centre projects, holds technical sign-off authority, and mentors junior and intermediate engineers.
The role owns the technical soundness of solutions across modularisation, fabrication, testing, transport, and installation, and leads BIM-based coordination using Revit across CTS's EMEA project portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the design and coordination strategy for mechanical piping and cooling systems supporting prefabricated and modular data centre solutions.
- Hold technical sign-off authority for mechanical prefabrication packages, ensuring solutions are technically sound and suitable for fabrication, testing, transport, and installation.
- Lead coordination between engineering, manufacturing, and site execution for mechanical systems assembled and tested in the factory prior to installation.
- Lead multidisciplinary coordination and resolution of interfaces, clashes, and technical inconsistencies across civil, structural, architectural, and electrical disciplines.
- Lead the application of BIM methodologies and Revit-based modelling standards across the mechanical prefabrication scope.
- Define modularisation strategy (piping, supports, connections, routing, accessibility, installation requirements) to ensure buildable, standardised prefabricated solutions.
- Lead quality assurance reviews of mechanical engineering outputs, ensuring technical accuracy, consistency, and compliance across projects.
- Lead engagement with factory/production teams, suppliers, and construction teams to resolve complex technical issues and support project delivery.
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers, reviewing their design deliverables and promoting consistent engineering standards.
- Drive continuous improvement of BIM workflows, modularisation and prefabrication processes, and digital engineering practices across the portfolio.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master's preferred.
- 10+ years of professional experience in mechanical engineering design and/or multidisciplinary construction projects, including experience leading complex engineering environments.
- Extensive experience in data centres, buildings, and/or modular and prefabrication construction.
- Expert ability to interpret, analyse, develop, and detail mechanical engineering designs, with deep understanding of multidisciplinary coordination, fabrication, installation, and construction requirements.
- Advanced knowledge of BIM methodology and Revit/BIM authoring software.
- Strong track record driving digitalization and BIM methodology adoption to improve engineering and construction processes.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
- Proven leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams, production teams, suppliers, and construction teams.
- Availability to travel according to project and business requirements.
