Role Overview

The Mechanical Engineer – Prefabrication is responsible for designing and coordinating mechanical piping and cooling systems that are partially assembled and tested in a factory before installation in data centre projects. The role ensures mechanical solutions are technically sound, coordinated with other disciplines, and suitable for modularisation, fabrication, testing, transport, and installation.

The position combines mechanical engineering expertise with BIM methodologies and Revit to support efficient prefabrication and project delivery, with a strong focus on quality, coordination, constructability, and buildability across CTS's EMEA project portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, analyse, and coordinate mechanical piping and cooling systems for prefabricated and modular data centre solutions in accordance with project requirements, applicable standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Ensure designs are technically coordinated and suitable for prefabrication, testing, transport, and installation.
  • Coordinate mechanical systems that are partially assembled and tested in the factory before installation, ensuring continuity between engineering, manufacturing, and site execution.
  • Interpret and technically analyse mechanical designs, drawings, specifications, and project documentation, ensuring solutions are accurately detailed and suitable for fabrication and construction.
  • Coordinate mechanical solutions with civil, structural, architectural, electrical, and other project disciplines, identifying and resolving interfaces, clashes, and technical inconsistencies.
  • Apply BIM methodologies throughout the design and coordination process, using Revit to develop, update, and coordinate mechanical models and project documentation.
  • Apply practical knowledge of modularisation, piping, supports, connections, routing, accessibility, and installation requirements to support buildable prefabricated solutions.
  • Review mechanical engineering outputs to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, completeness, and compliance with project requirements and applicable standards.
  • Prepare and review mechanical drawings, details, specifications, calculations, schedules, and other engineering deliverables required throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, factory/production teams, suppliers, and construction teams to resolve technical issues and support project delivery.
  • Contribute to the improvement of BIM workflows, modularisation and prefabrication processes, digital engineering practices, design standards, and project delivery processes.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering design and/or multidisciplinary construction projects, particularly within complex engineering environments.
  • Experience in data centres, buildings, and/or modular and prefabrication construction is highly valued.
  • Strong ability to interpret, analyse, develop, and detail mechanical engineering designs, with a clear understanding of multidisciplinary coordination, fabrication, installation, and construction requirements.
  • Good knowledge of BIM methodology and practical familiarity with Revit/BIM authoring software.
  • Strong interest in digitalization and the application of technology and BIM methodologies to improve engineering and construction processes.
  • Intermediate proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams, production teams, suppliers, and construction teams.
  • Responsible, committed, proactive, and team-oriented, with strong motivation for engineering, construction, digitalization, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Availability to travel according to project and business requirements.
